The Port Credit Skating Club is excited to announce that registration is open for our 2020-2021 Fall CanSkate season and we will be skating at our home Port Credit Memorial Arena.

There have been many changes this season due to COVID Protocols. Read this email in its entirety as it contains important information.

In order to register for CanSkate the skaters need to meet the following program requirement:

Skaters must be independent in order to attend the CanSkate programs, meaning they must be able to stand up on their own and do not require any hands-on support for skating. Coaches and PA’s are not permitted to have physical contact with skaters. They also should be able to put on their gloves independently.

The skaters will also require the following equipment in order to participate in the program:

  • CSA Approved hockey helmets
  • Clean mittens or gloves
  • Skates
  • Hard skate guards
    • Skate guards should be made of a hard material, they should not have any wheels attached to them as walking up ramps will be required
    • Guards can be purchased at most sports stores.
    • You can purchase guards from our sponsor Figure Skating Boutique (here).
  • Clean face mask

Please register here

When registering:

  • Please review the schedule as the skating session times are different than from previous seasons
  • Please select the instalment option at checkout so you will pay one third of program fees at registration and the remaining payments on Nov 1st and Dec 1st.  This will be beneficial to both you and the Club, in the event that there are future restrictions that impact us.

Due to COVID restriction the CanSkate you know from previous seasons has changed.

The program has changed as follows:

  • Programs will run as 30minute sessions
  • There will be no fast track warm-up
  • Skaters will do three 10-minute circuits
  • Assessments will be maintained online on the club website and no paper report cards will be given

The following protocol will be followed in all CanSkate sessions

  1. Before leaving home review the self-screening COVID questionnaire (here).
  2. Skaters should arrive at the arena parking lot 20 minutes before their session start time.
  3. Skaters should change and put on their equipment in the car (There will be no access to the arena or changing rooms)
  4. Skates should be put on with their guards on
  5. Once ready skaters should put on their name tags (will be provided at the first session) and put on their masks and helmets. They do not need to put on their gloves
  6. Skaters will assemble at the entrance to the facility with 2m physical distancing. Skaters should use the ramp and not walk up the stairs.
  7. Skaters will be able to enter the facility using the main door. Parents are not allowed in the ice rink, and must wait for their skater in the parking lot. (Spectators are not permitted as per City of Mississauga protocols for the Port Credit Arena- see below)
  8. The skaters will be met by a volunteer, who will guide them to the appropriate ice entrance based on the group color
  9. In order to get on the ice skaters will do the following
    1. Take off their guards, and leave them at a designated spot
    2. Sanitize their hands
    3. Put on their gloves and enter the ice surface
  10. On the ice skaters will be given a designated spot in order to ensure 2m physical distancing
  11. Coaches will not be able to touch the skaters, if a skater requires assistance the parent will be called.
  12. When the session end the skaters should line up by the exit door and follow the procedure:
    1. Put on skate guards
    2. Remove gloves, sanitize hands
  13. Skaters will exit the arena using the door at the far end the hallway by Dressing Room 1
  14. Skaters should be pickup by their parents at the outside door located at the bottom of the ramp. Signage will be posted for the first few weeks.

The City of Mississauga has changed some of their COVID protocols now that we are back at Port Credit Memorial Arena.  Please read carefully:

  • Parents/guardians and spectators will not be allowed into the Port Credit Memorial Arena at any time
  • Skaters must perform passive screening before leave the house, if you answer “yes” to any of the screening questions - stay home!  Screening questions are found here (as well as attached to the email)
  • Parents/guardians will be asked to wait in the parking lot for their skater and remain physically distanced during this time
  • Should a parent be needed to assist a skater, they will be called and may enter the lobby to meet with their skater
  • Skaters will enter the arena using the main doors.  Skaters will most likely exit from the door facing the parking lot, at the bottom of the outdoor ramp

Before you skate this week, note the following summary of our Club COVID-19 protocols:

  • Skaters will be asked by a Club representative (Coach or Volunteer) if they have completed and passed the self screening questions.  Please be prepared to answer ‘yes’ since you have completed your self-screening.  Otherwise, the skater must complete the full screening questions at the arena and this will delay all skaters from entering the arena
  • Physical distancing must be maintained at ALL times. We understand that some skaters are in their own social “bubble”, however, we are asking that physical distancing be strictly maintained while at the arena.
  • Keep your hands clean! Perform hand hygiene when entering the arena and when getting on and off the ice.  Wear clean skating gloves every day.
  • Masks must be worn when in public spaces in the facility and must be worn when entering and exiting the building.

We will further discuss the protocols and answer your questions during our COVID-19 Prevention and Education Virtual Seminar to be held on

Monday October 12th at 7:30 pm:

Wednesday October 14th at 7:30 pm:

We look forward to seeing you back at the rink!

COVID-19 has posed many challenges in regards to planning and executing our skating season. The situation remains fluid and unexpected changes to our protocols may be necessary in order to maintain compliance with government restrictions. Skate Canada, Skate Ontario and municipal guidelines must all be taken into consideration to ensure the
safety for our skaters, coaches, volunteers and parents.

2020-2021 Skating Season

Your Port Credit SC Board of Directors has been hard at work planning for the 2020-2021 skating year.

Port Credit Arena

We are pleased to announce that Fall skating sessions will take place at the Port Credit Arena! Arena-specific restrictions are in place for the Port Credit Arena and these will be sent out shortly.

Fall 2020 Skating

Registration for the Fall 2020 skating season (October to December) will soon be open. The  number of skaters per session is limited due to restrictions on gathering sizes and, as noted above, could change based on further COVID limitations.

Fall CanSkate

Currently, our CanSkate program cannot accept any skater who requires assistance on the ice (i.e. is unable to already move on their own in skates). Our Coaches and Program Assistants are not permitted to have physical contact with skaters based on Skate Ontario recommendations.  Skaters must be independent and able to stand up on their own if
they fall. For this reason, there will be no Pre-CanSkate sessions during Fall 2020. At this time, spectators are not permitted at the Port Credit arena.  Fully dressed skaters will be assemble at the arena door and be escorted as a group to and from the ice by our volunteers or coaches. CanSkate sessions will take place on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday for 30 minute sessions.  An Adult CanSkate session will also take place on Sundays for those with skating experience.

StarSkate sessions will resume as per Pre-Fall program guidelines with further restrictions due to the return to Port Credit Arena.  These will be made clear in updated protocols.

An email will be sent out shortly to announce registration for both our CanSkate and StarSkate programs.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Awards Ceremony

The Port Credit Skating Club Annual General Meeting, which was postponed in the Spring, will be taking place on Thursday October 15th at 7:30 pm. Due to COVID restrictions this will be a Zoom meeting. All members are encouraged to attend as we will be holding our awards ceremony to honor our 2019-2020 season skaters as well as voting in our new 2020-2021 season Board of Directors. If you are interested in joining our volunteer Board, please email before October 8th.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish our Port Credit family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. The Board of Directors is truly thankful for our skating family’s ongoing patience, understanding and generosity through these challenging times.

We look forward to seeing you back at the rink!

However, based on the maximum number of people permitted to gather and to maintain safety for all participants, coaches and volunteers, registration will be limited.

The Port Credit SC Board of Directors has been working in collaboration with the City of Mississauga as well as following Public Health and Skate Ontario guidelines regarding return to skating protocols and restrictions during the COVID-19 situation.  It is important that you read this email thoroughly and in its entirety.

COVID-19 update

The Ontario Government announced that Figure Skating would be permitted to resume in Stage 1 of reopening. This being said, only National level competitive skaters have been allowed to return to skating under strict protocols.

The Port Credit SC is monitoring updates from our National and Provincial Skating governing bodies, Skate Canada and Skate Ontario, as well as the Provincial and municipal governments. The City of Mississauga arenas remain closed with no planned re-opening date at this time. We will continue to communicate with our members when new information is made available.

Port Credit Skating Club Coach Goodwill Fund

We would like to thank our members who have generously contributed towards our Coach Goodwill Fund. We have raised a total of $3225.00 to date as we strive to reach our goal of $5000 by June 30th. You can apply your credit for lost skating sessions or make a monetary donation towards supporting our coaches. Donations can be made here. Simply chose the amount you wish to donate and the credit/gift certificate you received for lost skating sessions will be applied to the invoice. Be sure to log in to your current PCSC account to ensure your credit will be applied, do not create a new account.

Summer 2020 Programming

In light of the current COVID closures and uncertainty regarding arena re-opening, registration for Summer programs remains unavailable until we can confirm sessions will be taking place. Schedules for Summer are posted on our website under the Spring and Summer 2020 tab and can be viewed here. You can review this information in order to make plans but we cannot guarantee that Summer skating will be able to proceed.

Dear Port Credit Skating Club Members,

The City of Mississauga has informed us that they made the difficult, but responsible decision to close all city arenas until the beginning of July.  Sadly, that means our regular skating season has come to an early end, and we will need to adjust our planned Spring and Summer seasons.

We were heartbroken that we needed to cancel Carnival, as many of our skaters look forward to our ice show and consider it one of the highlights of their skating season.  We are planning to reschedule Carnival to April 2021, and invite back our graduating skaters so they have their last skate with their PCSC skating family.

Even though the arena is closed, your Port Credit Skating Club board is diligently working behind the scenes.  We will be processing credits to reimburse you for missed regular season sessions and we will refund those who registered for Carnival.  We are planning a condensed Summer skating season once we know when the arenas will open again.

We are creating the "PCSC Coach Goodwill Fund” where you will be able to apply your credit for lost skating sessions or make a monetary donation towards supporting our coaches. Further information regarding the Coach fund will be forthcoming.

We are also planning for the future.  Next year is the 60th anniversary of the Port Credit Skating Club and we want to celebrate our history and return to arena on a high note.  We plan to have our 2020-2021 program information available on our website in early August, We will hold our Annual General Meeting in September as a welcome back party.

Most importantly, we are here for you.  Please feel free to contact us at or if you have any questions or suggestions.  We miss you and appreciate all your support for our club, our coaches and our skaters.

Please keep an eye on our social media, as we will post a retrospective of the last and celebrate the successes of our skaters.

Take care, stay safe.

We will see you at the rink!

The world we live in has changed significantly since our March newsletter. COVID-19 has taken a hold of every aspect of our lives. Let’s all make a difference by staying home and practicing physical distancing.

Cancelled Sessions

The Port Credit Skating Club’s programs remain suspended. We have received direction from the City of Mississauga that arenas will be closed until further notice.

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel PreCanSkate, CanSkate and Adult CanSkate programs for the remainder of the season. Credits will be issued for missed sessions, this will take a bit of time so we ask for patience*. Progress reports ribbons and badges will be distributed during the 2020-2021 season.

For all other levels, we will inform you as soon as we receive information regarding arena re-opening. Once we know how many sessions have been missed, we will credit your account*.

*Credits which are on your account will automatically be applied to your next invoice.

Carnival 2020

Sadly we are cancelling Carnival for this year. We are rescheduling Carnival for April of 2021! We understand that current graduating skaters will be especially disappointed with this decision as Carnival is often a highlight of their year. These skaters will be invited back to participate next year. An email will be sent to skaters registered for Carnival regarding refunds. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who have worked extremely hard on planning Carnival and hope that you will be willing and able to help in 2021.

Supporting Our Coaches

The Port Credit Skating Club is hoping to raise funds to support our coaches, who have lost income due to the current COVID-19 shutdown. Some of our coaches depend on PCSC programming as their primary source of income. As independent contractors working for a not-for-profit organization this makes for tough times ahead. If you are lucky enough to have a stable income, unaffected by the current economic situation, please consider donating to the "PCSC Coach Goodwill Fund". You will be able to apply your credit for lost skating sessions or make a monetary donation towards supporting our coaches. Further information regarding the Coach fund will be forthcoming.

Port Credit SC – Annual General Meeting

The planned Annual General Meeting and Skater Awards Ceremony of the Port Credit Skating Club planned for May 6th, 2020 has been rescheduled for the fall of 2020.

Spring and Summer 2020 Programming

Registration for Spring and Summer will be postponed until we are assured that sessions will be taking place and we know the start date. Schedules and pricing have been posted on our website under the Spring and Summer 2020 tab and can be viewed here. You can review this information in order to make future plans. We will notify you when registration opens.

Please note that there has been an arena change for our Spring and Summer programs. All sessions are to take place at Iceland arena and NOT Erin Mills Twin Arena.

We would like to thank all our members for their patience and understanding during this difficult time. We will keep everyone updated as more information becomes available. Stay safe and we hope to see everyone back at the rink soon!

The following communication was received late this afternoon from the City of Mississauga:

With guidance from Peel Public Health and in an abundance of caution for both our residents and staff around the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is Mississauga is responding with the following changes in City operations at this time.

  • The City of Mississauga will be closing all recreation, library, and cultural facilities starting Saturday, March 14 through to April 5 to the public. This includes the Living Arts Centre, Meadowvale Theatre, Paramount Fine Foods Centre and the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre.  Programming at these facilities will be cancelled.

For this reason, the Port Credit Skating Club will be cancelling all skating sessions starting Sunday, March 15th to Sunday, April 5th.

We currently have coaches at the arena who are prepared to proceed with today’s scheduled sessions.   PreCanSkate and CanSkate classes will proceed as planned. We ask that you use your discretion as to whether you wish to attend skating today.

We will keep you posted on further updates as they are available, this includes updates regarding Carnival.

The health and safety of our members, coaches, parents and volunteers the top priority for us. We are closely following the direction of the City of Mississauga, Peel Public Health, provincial health officials, the Public Health Agency of Canada and our governing bodies, Skate Ontario and Skate Canada.

Will there be skating on Friday & Sunday (March 13 & March 15)?

Yes. As of this time, all City of Mississauga facilities, including the Port Credit Memorial Arena are open. We plan to run all Star Skate and CanSkate/PreCanskate programs on Friday, March 13th and Sunday, March 15th.

If Public Health recommends closing the arena, we will advise you as quickly as possible by email and notifications on our website ( and social media accounts (#PCFSC and @portcreditskatingclub).

Will there be skating over March break?

There are no regular skating sessions at the Port Credit Skating Club from March 16th – March 21st.

We have a planned Competitive/Pre-Competitive on ice session, as well as a planned Off Ice session for March 22nd. Click here for more details.

At this time, we anticipate all regular StarSkate, CanSkate and PreCanskate sessions to resume March 23rd and March 24th, respectively.

Should circumstances change, we will communicate these to you as soon as possible.

The Government of Ontario has closed public schools for two weeks following March break (until April 5th). Will Port Credit Skating Club cancel skating sessions too?

We just don’t know right now. The COVID-19 situation is evolving quickly, and we do not have enough information to give you a definite answer at this time. We will let you know as soon as we can.

Will Carnival rehearsals begin as scheduled and will there still be a show?

Good question.  While Carnival is an important tradition for Port Credit Skating Club, the health of our skaters, members, parents, coaches and their families and friends are more important. Please bear with us. When we know more, we will let you know.

Will the Skate Ontario Provincial Championship go ahead as scheduled?

Skate Ontario is monitoring the situation closely and, are “proceeding according to plan with upcoming Skate Ontario events at this time.” Skate Ontario will communicate any changes at

COVID-19 Prevention

Symptoms of COVID-19 are mild fever, dry cough, and sore throat. The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other more common viruses is to:

  • wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose as much as possible
  • avoid contact with people who are ill and their items
  • cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; if no tissue is available, then sneeze or cough into the sleeve or arm
  • clean and disinfect objects and surfaces regularly
  • do not share food or drinks (including water bottles)

What should I do if my skater is sick?

Anytime you or your skater are sick, it is expected that you do not attend any scheduled skating sessions.

We will continue to monitor the situation and seek advice and recommendations in the coming days to ensure we are providing the safest environment possible.  If recommendations change, we will respond quickly and communicate via our website, social media and email.

If you are a returning PreCanSkate or CanSkate participant, please bring the Progress Report that you received on your last session. This will enable our coaches to more easily assess your child based on their prior accomplishments.

Some of our skaters have severe peanut/nut allergies. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for everyone and ask that consumption of all nuts be avoided by your skater prior to or while at skating. If they should come into contact with nuts please have them wash their hands thoroughly prior to attending skating. We are particularly concerned about our common areas such as the dressing rooms.

With winter upon us, please refer to our “Weather Policy” which is found in the Port Credit SC policies:

  • In cases of inclement weather, check the PCSC homepage and Facebook page for updates/information regarding skating cancellations and arena closures
  • No make-up session or refund will be provided due to cancelled sessions beyond our control.

As always, remember to visit our website, Facebook and Instagram pages for up-to-date information regarding Club activities.
