Learn to Figure Skate
Who is it for?
This fun and exciting NEW program is for all skaters wanting to learn and pursue Figure Skating. Skaters must be able to skate on their own, including getting up without assistance. This is a fantastic opportunity as CanSkate can not run with current Covid-19 restrictions. The program is fully coached by our Skate Canada certified coaches. Requirements: Skater must be self sufficient and able to get up on their own, skate forwards and backwards. Parents must remain in the parking lot for the duration of the program and on ice coaches must have a list of contact numbers for the attending parent.
What will you learn?
The fundamentals and proper technique used by figure skaters. Skaters will learn how to use their knees, the difference between different edges, proper posture and will emerge with strong fundamentals paving the way to a bright future in figure skating!
What can you expect?
Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-to-student ratio of 1:4 (vs. 1:10 in traditional Canskate). Skaters will progress at their own pace and entry-level to the program. Clear communication from our NCCP Certified coaches as to how your skater is progressing and what the next steps are for your skater when they are ready to progress to the next level of our StarSkate program.
Required equipment: Figure skates are highly recommended, a CSA approved helmet, gloves/mittens, skate guards, proper athletic wear and a mask
