Skate Canada’s STAR Assessment Rule Book can be found here. Port Credit Figure Skating Club (PCFSC) has a responsibility to adhere to the rules outlined in the rule book.

In addition to Skate Canada’s Rule Book, PCFSC has established the following policy as it relates to STAR Assessments held within the club.

a)     STAR 1-5 Assessments

The following assessments will take place during regular skating sessions and will be evaluated by Coach Assessors:

STAR 1-5: Dance, Freeskate Elements, Freeskate Program, Artistic and Skills

Qualified Coach Assessors may also evaluate STAR 6 - Gold Skills during regular skating sessions if qualified to do so and deemed necessary.

The cost for STAR assessments that take place during regular skating sessions is $12 per assessment which is set by Skate Canada. Payment must be made prior to the assessment taking place. Payment can be made by purchasing assessment tickets here. Individual ticket numbers (not to be confused with invoice numbers) can be found for each assessment purchased. These individual ticket numbers must be provided to the Coach Assessor prior to the assessment taking place. Coaches must indicate the ticket number on each assessment sheet and provide each assessment sheet to the Assessment Chair within 15 days from the assessment date. A physical or digital copy are both acceptable. Skaters are to retain a copy of the lower portion of the completed assessment sheet. The Assessment Chair must submit the results of the assessments to Skate Canada within 30 days of the assessment date.

b)     STAR 6 – Gold Assessments

STAR 6 - Gold assessments will take place during predetermined Assessment Days throughout the year. The PCFSC Board will determine the Assessment Days when creating schedules for each skating season. A qualified Evaluator will be brought in to assess the skaters participating in the Assessment Day. Skaters must be in good standing with the club and up to date with all payments to participate in the Assessment Day.

The following deadlines apply to each Assessment Day unless otherwise specified by the Assessment Chair:

c)      Tentative list of assessments – Coaches must submit the list at least 3-4 weeks before the Assessment Day

d)     Final pull date - 2 weeks before the Assessment Day

e)     Requests for accommodations - 2 weeks before the Assessment Day

f)       Payment due date – no later than 1 week before the Assessment Day

g)      Posted schedule – no later than 1 week before the Assessment Day

The cost per assessment is $20 which includes the Skate Canada fee and PCFSC’s administrative fee which covers costs such as ice-time, travel expenses for the Evaluator, processing fees, etc. Payment can be made here. Skaters will not be permitted to participate in the Assessment Day if payment is not received before the deadline. If a skater is not pulled before the deadline and does not skate for reasons that are not due to unforeseen circumstances, the payment is still required.

If a higher assessment was conditional on passing a lower assessment and the skater did not pass the lower assessment, the paid assessment fee will be carried over and applied to the next Assessment Day for the skater.
